NikeLab | 21 Mercer / USOpen Tennis Deconstructed

Created for the NikeLab | 21 Mercer Soho New York store / wearesubrosa was tasked with creating an art installation based on the USOpen of Tennis. Working with "Tennis Deconstructed" a Processing + HYPE sketch was passed audio highlights from Nike Athletes past and present... Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams... and in the case of this sketch, Andre Agassi vs Pete Sampras. Pulling geometric forms that reflect the textures of the court and arranged in a system that would also mimic the net and racket grids. Color was pulled from the prominent Green, Blue and white tones found on the court, handrails and seating.
The final sketch takes these forms and colors and assigns them across an audio spectrum... so that certain colors and textures are graphic representations of sounds that happen in a court match. Everything from the sound of the ball volleys, the groans and grunts, the explosive crowd cheers, and announcers commentary. wearesubrosa then took these elements to produce a 6.5 x 30 foot mural for the south facing wall in the NikeLab 21 Mercer Soho Store. 15 printed wood "digital camouflage" panels in total, every 3 panels an audio composition from a specific USOpen Nike Athlete.
